Read this in the Messenger this morning. Any timescale on when the wall be repaired as it looks a bloody eyesore. Doesn't send a good message about Rochester what with this and shamefully pulling down Aveling and Porter building on the opposite bank.

Excellent local initiative. Do you mind if we borrow this for our local PPC's campaign?

UKIP are on the money with their campaign and I see no harm in Conservatives supporting the cause either. Let's face it, the widespread closures of pubs is characteristic of a gradual decline in the very culture and fabric of British life. It seems like changes are on the cards following David Cameron's speech in Medway last week where he was very clear that discounting alcohol below cost by supermarkets should be banned and there is compelling evidence that cheap alcohol has contributed to 'broken Britain' and violent crime. Read more here to see how serious the problem has become : http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/crime-victims/reducing-crime/alcohol-related-crime/. What is really too late is that the current government has only recently started to look into a problem citizens have had to endure for many years.

Regarding policy, my proposal would be to take it one stage further and apply a tax on beer and alchopops/premixed drinks sold from supermarkets (but not wine or spirits) and reduce the duty and tax for ALL alcohol sold in pubs. Let's face it, if supermarkets can afford to discount it below cost, they can afford to deal with the dilemma of either paying the tax on behalf of their customers or passing it straight on to them.

There is a community benefit : pubs were historically a key component of our communities and our societal structure and also a refuge from the mother in law for some of us! I see nothing wrong with re-building our communities by helping pubs be successful again.
For an economic benefit, perhaps we can also stimulate our once envied brewing industry too. Imagine having a choice of locals again (many people do not) that served a variety of local brews and how that could help rural and urban communities.......we might even see hops growing in Kent again too!

I went along to hear what David Cameron had to say and was delighted to see in the flesh a man with real values and beliefs and the aptitude and grace to communicate with a very mixed audience.

The venue of the Sunlight Centre was clearly evidence of David highlighting that he is prepared to look at the issues ordinary and disadvantaged people face as well as the greater national 'big picture'.

His family oriented stance and response to challenging questions by a reporter on violent crime (especially youth crime) highlighted the committment to work for future generations of adults even though they might not carry a vote now - this is leadership for our country rather than just a party.

Hi Paul

I think this visit was arranged by G&R association who kept it very 'hush hush' which was their prerogative. I wonder if there may have been security reason for doing so? Not Mark's fault though.

What a pity that his visit was not promoted. I'm sure the hoi polloi would have liked a glimpse of him. What a missed opportunity

As an inhabitant of the county in question not far from Wootton Bassett I see Hugh Orde's interference as high handed and frankly worrying.

It is my sincere hope that a new Westminster administration will terminate all contracts nationwide with ACPO, whose policies, governance and influence are at best opaque and at worst - well - I don't know - and that's the point = secretive direction of of our police forces by a non accountable private body - is that acceptable?

As for Anjem and his pals - well - perhaps trimming their benefits might cramp their style - but the Guardianista PC brigade would have a hissy fit wouldn't they?

Wootton Bassett is being set up as a set piece confrontation by scumbuckets with equally deranged worldviews to the Islamoloons and deeply unpleasant motives want to use this town as a hobby horse to leverage their visibility and promote rotten agendas.

Why is it that I suspect Mr. Orde might be amonst those folk?

I'd like to be proved wrong.
